AnzioWin's Print Preview
by Bobby Ezell

AnzioWin version 15.0 includes a new “Printer Setup” dialog that allows you to turn on or off the print “Preview” flag.

When “Preview” is checked, and AnzioWin receives a passthrough print job, the AnzioWin print preview screen comes up, allowsing you to see and change several options before printing.

From this Preview dialog, you can adjust left, right, top and bottom margins, you can increase gutter sizes when doing multiple column printing, and you can adjust various starting positions for labels.

Also from this dialog, you can adjust certain Print Wizard Embedded assumptions in order to make the passthrough print job print as you wish. These assumptions include the lines per inch, the characters per inch and the lines per page calculations to use when printing. By double clicking on the title bar, or by dragging the lower right corner, you can adjust the screen size and view so it is more readable.

This dialog also supports “ink”. If Microsoft “ink” support is installed, from here you can actually draw on the image of the page layout and mark up text. The “ink is a handy way to sign off or include your own comments on a printout prior to printing. And by right clicking with the mouse, you can adjust colors and pen sizes.

Additional information on the Preview dialog is available in the user manual.

Having Windows Wait for Print Jobs
Using Windows Services for Print Wizard
by Bobby Ezell

With the release of Print Wizard Server Edition version 3.0, we also released Windows Services for Print Wizard.

Windows Services for Print Wizard is a services utility that will run any pre-defined Print Wizard service as a true Windows service. This will work on Windows XP or later.

Unlike a regular application which is ran by a user, Windows services are automatically started whenever Windows boots up. They do not require a logged in user and hence are ideal for situations where remote users need access at all times, such as to print remote print jobs. As long as the Windows machine is up and running, the Windows Services will also run.

The Print Wizard services of “despool”, “ftp despool”, “listen” and “lpd” can all be ran as a Windows service, running anytime Windows is available. These services still utilize the Print Wizard engine to print their output, making it possible to receive remote print jobs and output to printer, email, fax or PDF.

You can install, start, stop and uninstall these services from the Print Wizard User Interface.

You can also manage these jobs through the Windows Administrative Tools Services dialog. Check out our Print Wizard 3.0 manual for more information.

Printing Labels Through AnzioWin
by Bob Rasmussen

As mentioned above, AnzioWin version 15 introduced a “Preview” dialog that allows you to see passthrough print jobs before actually printing them.

When passthrough printing a batch of labels, you can adjust several parameters that determine how labels will print, including selecting the exact position to start printing at. This actually has one big advantage, you can start printing from any label on the page, not wasting label stock.

it is possible to tell AnzioWin’s Preview to start printing at a certain label, so you can reuse partial label sheets. In the Preview window, just right-click in the correct place, and in the popup context menu select “Start printing here”.

Along with this useful feature, you can also adjust column offsets, column gutters, row offsets and row gutters, as well as placing labels in “row order”.

Refer to the AnzioWin manual for more information. Also check out our vendor page pertaining to printing Innopac Labels with AnzioWin for more helpful hints.

AnzioWin and Anzio Lite Timing Out
by Bobby Ezell

Neither AnzioWin nor Windows includes any network timeouts due to idle. Instead we usually see the problem with various other network devices.

Many network devices, especially security appliances such as firewalls, watch network traffic for idle time and will disconnect sessions after a set period of time. Likewise, routers, bridges, managed switches and hub may all reset connections more or less at random in order to clear tables, reset routes or do other maintenance.

Within AnzioWin and Anzo Lite there is an option that allows you to attempt to set a “Stay Alive”. Under the Communicate menu, there is a Network : Stay Alive dialog that allows you to set a time in seconds. Anzio will attempt to notify the network that it is still active every so many seconds by sending an empty network packet, just to let all devices in between know it is still alive.

This will work in about 80% of all timeout cases. Other devices may still cause problems that are out of Anzio’s control. If you continue to experience problems, check with your network administrator or contact us for more information.
