Creating PDF Files with AnzioWin
by Bob Rasmussen

AnzioWin version 15.0 or later has the ability to create PDF files compatible with Adobe Acrobat © Reader from passthrough print jobs.

Under the File menu you can access the new AnzioWin Printer Setup dialog. In this dialog you can select various levels of printing, Print Wizard, High, Spooler or Raw.

When Print Wizard is selected, you can also check the“PDF file named” button and enter a PDF file name. If you need to browse for the directory to put the file in, you can do so by clicking on the trailing browse button.

Also here, you can select whether to “post view” the PDF through your local PDF viewer, such as Acrobat © Reader, by just checking the “View PDF” item.

When AnzioWin receives a passthrough print job, a PDF file will be created in the location specified. This file will include all the passthrough print data be compatible with any PDF viewer you may have on your Windows box.

You can further automate this with a little advanced programming. As with most all our features, the PDF option can be turned on and off through host commands sent to AnzioWin by a host application or host script, through a user-defined macros or through a local script defined in the AnzioWin macros file.

See the AnzioWin documentation for more information.

Faxing with AnzioWin
by Bobby Ezell

AnzioWin version 15.0 or later has the ability to fax from passthrough print jobs.

Like PDF generation above, through the AnzioWin Printer Setup dialog, you can select “Fax to number” as your Print Wizard option. The number entered here will be the fax-to number for the fax engine.

AnzioWin works with the Microsoft Fax engine. Windows XP or later all have this fax engine available, but not necessarily installed. If this is not installed, you can do so through the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and the Windows Components option.

When this option is set and a fax number provided, any print screen or passthrough print job will be faxed to the number given.

See the AnzioWin documentation for more information.

Print Wizard's FTP Despool Service
by Bobby Ezell

In Print Wizard 3.0 or later we have included a service type that allows you to “despool” from an FTP site. This service, “FtpDespool” can run as a Print Wizard service (stand-alone) or as a Windows Service for Print Wizard.

When setting up this service type, you need to provide the host name or IP address, the login name and a password. This is all similar to what you would use to manually FTP from a site.

Also you need to provide a subdirectory name or a full path where you want to despool files from. Provided you have access to this directory, Print Wizard FTP Despool will look in the FTP directory every few minutes to see if there are any files to print. It then processes those files through the Print Wizard engine.

This can be a handy way to grab remote print files where firewalls get in the way. Check out the Print Wizard documentation for more information.

Running Serial Devices Remotely With VirtPort
by Bob Rasmussen

VirtPort is a Virtual Port driver that makes any serial device appear to be connected locally to your UNIX or Linux host system, when in reality it is connected to a Windows PC.

VirtPort on the host connects to a specific IP address running VirtPort on a Windwos PC and allows network access to the serial device, even though the protocol is serial.

With both ends in place, VirtPort establishes a pseudo-device on the UNIX/Linux host that your host application can utilize as if the serial device were locally connected.

So anything from serial printers, to hand-held meters, to large truck scales can be tied into your host server, regardless of how remote the location is – all you need is a network connection.
