AnzioWin and "Super Files"
by Bob Rasmussen |
Many operations that deal with files can now optionally use a "superfile”, a file name that looks like a URI as seen associated with web pages. For instance, you could issue the Anzio command:
COPY ftp://somefile@host.com mylocalfile
to fetch the file from an FTP location and store it on disk.
We have added many new “superfile” extensions, to handle faxing, scanning, speech, and many other features. Some can be used as input file names and some as output file names.
All superfile designations have a type identifier followed by "://", as in the first example above. The identifier is not case sensitive.
Following are some examples of superfile names supported in AnzioWin:
FTP://filename
HTTP://filename@site.com
SCAN://
PDF://
PDF://filename.pdf
FAX32://555-1234
EMF://
EMF://filename.emf
SCREENBMP://
SPEAK://

Generating PDF’s With Print Wizard 3.0
by Bobby Ezell |
Print Wizard version 3.0 contains many ways for generating PDF files.
With Print Wizard Personal Edition, you can select a file from the User Interface and with one click of a toolbar button create a PDF.
With the Print Wizard engine, you can issue command line parameters to generate a PDF from your own application or script.
With the Print Wizard DLL, you can have your own application do object calls into the Print Wizard engine, allowing you to generate PDF files directly.
From a service running in the Print Wizard Server edition, you can receive a remote file over the “listen” protocol (similar to HP JetDirect®) or the LPD protocol, you can receive a remote print job and generate a PDF file.
Also from the Print Wizard Server Edition you can despool a file from an FTP directory, a remote network directory, or from a local directory and generate a PDF file.
And lastly, with Print Wizard Embedded inside AnzioWin, you can force a passthrough print job to generate a PDF file.

AnzioWin versus Anzio Lite
by Bobby Ezell |
A very common question is “what is the difference between AnzioWin and Anzio Lite?
Both Anzio Lite and AnzioWin have solid support for terminal emulation, telnet, secure shell (SSH) and modem communications. Both offer full screen control and passthrough printing.
AnzioWin goes well beyond typical terminal emulation. AnzioWin includes user-defined macros, scripting, keyboard remapping, FTP file transfer, a Secure Shell FTP (SFTP), SSH backchannel printing, bitmapped background and in-line picture support and more.
But probably the biggest feature is an embedded version of our Print Wizard.
Embedded Print Wizard in AnzioWin provides passthrough printing with the ability to produce PDF files, fax, email, translate PCL codes, and more. Check out our web site for more information.

But which do I need?
AnzioWin or Anzio Lite?
by James Chin |
The article above describes the differences between AnzioWin and Anzio Lite. The other major question is “which do I need?” A common deciding factor on if you need AnzioWin is what you are using it for?
The majority of people purchase a telnet or SSH client to simply communicate and do data entry with their host system. If this is the case, Anzio Lite should meet your requirements.
However, if you are doing a lot of passthrough printing, check out AnzioWin, especially if you are printing non-standard jobs, such as labels, invoices or forms overlays. For these you will probably want AnzioWin.
Second, if you are a power user and wish to automate data entry or file transfers, or do other scripting, AnzioWin is a must.
And finally, if your vendor requires features only found in AnzioWin, such as bitmapped backgrounds. They may have incorporated features of AnzioWin into their application.
If you are still unsure, ask the vendor of your host application as to which you should use. If they recommended coming to us for terminal emulation, they will be familiar with the features of each.
